I don't know if I agree with this.

Me neither because if 2 people both commit the same crime they should be punished the same. This just seems like it's targeting people with higher income

Well technically they are being punished the same, it's the same percentage of their income being fined. Personally I think this is a good idea, you go Finland.

The idea is that rich people would normally be able to easily shrug off fixed speeding fees without any gripes. Thus, less incentive to follow the law.

This system seems like a good idea until you realize that as a rich person all you have to do is move your money somewhere in the cayman islands and act like your poor. Yay let's speed!

I don't see how that would work. It is based on income, not how much money you currently have in your bank account.

Switzerland has a similar system. There are lots of issues with speeding by those who are poor because their fines are so small.

You could fix that by setting a minimum fixed fee

i feel like it should be based on percentage but with a limit on how high or low it can go.

Here's a solution: if you can't afford a ticket for speeding, then pay attention and don't do it. \(^.^)/

But that's still a problem, the ones who can afford it drive like maniacs and endanger the rest of us. At least that's what happens in my city.

it isn't only endangering you it also endangers them, but that's not the point. You can't charge someone based off their income.how will they charge some teenager who doesn't have a job? Will they charge them based off of their parents pay? Or how about the person who's on welfare? It's just not that simple.

I guess there's a base fine, then if you have an income, the fine increases accordingly.

What if your income falls below the base pay?

not trying to be difficult! Just trying to bring up some points.

Then you pay the base fine. That's what I said, didn't I? There's a base fine you always pay, on top of that there's an income based increase.
