Because of how dang expensive it is to get started. Not to mention all the money to get it started is owned by people who are getting money by other means. Like oil and coal.
I'm not saying it can't happen or that it hasn't happened with fossil fuels, I'm saying that putting everyone's power source in the same area would make it hurt a lot more when it does happen.
I'm not against renewable energy, I'm against creating a giant vulnerability to global power.

we've discussed this before, it doesn't work like that
Not even close to true. I also did some math and humans doesn't even have enough resources to make it right now. Also it would cost quadrillions of dollars and take up more than half of the desert not that little square.
Also then you need maintenance and a way to spread the power.
This entire argument is shit.
this is what happens when you click on clickbait articles that say "this could all work, so why aren't we doing it?" without taking into account the fact that countries don't just come together like "okay let's close all of our power plants and build one giant solar one in the middle of Africa because why the hell not"
Making a square on a part of Africa does not put into scale
A) the cost
B) the geographical size of this
do the exact same thing except put it over the U.S. or Canada or the U.K.
I'm gonna be honest I don't know I thought that was funny at the time but now not so much

The current created is weak so to avoid voltage drop and resistance, less resistive metals like gold and silver are used. And you just can not drop that much precious metal anywhere. If you have to do this, first solve the economic condition of the countries so crime isnt a big issue.
Because solar power is not a reliable means of power. We know how much energy we can get from fossil fuels and they are always consistent no matter what the scenario. Green energy is something that can only be used as a personal cost saver, not for a global scale.
