Yeah people have lost there ability to respect anythin. Go to an art exhibit, if general population is allowed, kids are running like it's the park, flying kites, doing heroin.
All that kid stuff.
I'm an art conservator and can vouch for this. Half of my day is responding to calls from security about people touching, sticking gum on shit, and climbing/sitting on things. Gah!!
I don't understand why children are allowed to play anywhere that is not designed for play. Children shouldn't be playing on any statues regardless of what they represent, this just makes it worse because it is incredibly disrespectful. I used to work retail and parents would be paying no attention while their kids played on the escalators. I wish we could have escorted child and parent out of the store and asked them not to come back until they both learned how to behave.
I wonder if you can call the cops on them, just to teach them and their parents a lesson. Leaving your oily fingerprints and shoe dirt is technically defacing the memorial, right? Not to mention the weight of the children might bend or even break a piece of the statue (which is unlikely in this case as the statue seems to be made out of metal but could happen if it was made of plain stone).
Yes, they did. But they also fought for the right to be offended by children disrespecting something in honor of them and the horror they went through.

Just because you have the right to be an ass, doesn't mean it's okay to be one.
