We're actually keeping up with a philosophers' name theme. Calvin is from John Calvin and Hobbes is from Thomas Hobbes. Bacon is likely from Francis Bacon. Explains a bit why Calvin and Hobbes comics get so deep while simply being honest.

That's exactly what it is. It says so on the website. Her name is Frances (the feminine form of Francis), and Bacon is her nickname.
