The point is you can trust an 80 year old's judgment about as much as one of a 16 year old, because the human brain slows down and gets stuff mixed up when you get old, even if that person doesn't have dementia. The fact that this happens completely annuls the experience factor, which is why we should be careful with letting old people vote. Maybe only if they pass a medical examination that would test their ability to think clearly and decisionmaking?
"The fact that this happens completely annuls the experience factor, which is why we should be careful with letting old people vote."
WTF?
How about a simple test obout things like: 1)the purpose of government 2) the structure of federal, state, and local government. 3)checks and balances 4)constitutional knowledge 5) how a bill becomes a law ......etc
And EVERY LEGAL CITIZEN regardless of age or any other physical distinction needs to pass (show a basic understanding of what they are voting on) in order to vote.
Funny, I suggested this exact same thing a while back on this very website and got called a "fascist pig" for "wanting to take away people's right to vote".
Anyway yes, I agree, but here I suggested a medical test because
a) the chance it will be rigged/biased is smaller because it's just about biological facts and brain activity,
b) people who are totally clueless about politics but desperately want to vote because they're so sure their opinion is right even though they know nothing sbout the topic (aka about a half of the population or more) would protest a knowledge test, not so much a medical test.
Why is it common practice to automatically downvote guests here? I kinda agree with them. And they got downvoted for agreeing with someone who got upvoted, why?
Edit: maybe if you guys answered instead of downvoting like blind sheep, we all might come to an understanding. I'd really like that because if anything grinds my gears, it's people who downvote you without saying why they disagree. I sometimes feel like I'm trying to talk to a wall, seriously. Except a wall may have more interesting opinions than people who do the answerless downvoting.

The tweet proved the point it was against.
How ironic
There was actually a serious debate once if people over 80 shouldn't be allowed to vote. The argument was that the future does not belong to them anymore which is actually a pretty fucked up way to put that they're about to die any minute. If she voted for Hillary would it be ok she voted? Either way she is a living breathing person and has rights. She may continue to practice those rights until she no longer can of her own free will or physical power. Do i disagree with her choice. Fuck to the yes. Do i have a right to remove her rights to vote? No. Simple as that.
Older people tend to have experience.
