For a story line purpose, someone has to be the one captured, what would you say if it's a male character who was captured?

Most feminists I know (plus me) actually are fine with the kidnapped woman theme as long as the woman is portrayed as an actual person, not just a plot point. Their point is that a woman doesn't have to punch people and fight to be a real person. You can be a real woman and get kidnapped. But if they're portrayed as stupid and as if their only purpose in life is to be saved, then that's bad.

If you believe the creators in 1986 were totally doing it to be political and not cashing in on stereotypes.
