My husband told me his dad would fall asleep with his arm extended like that. No idea why though.

I used to have that problem, I'd wake up with my arm in the air. Doctor told me that it was because my head wasn't elevated enough and that's the body's weird response to that when you sleep. Just add a pillow, actually helps

I used to sleep with my arms raised like that... it would freak people out. Haven't done it in a few years though.
