Making it a pleasure to teach and learn, which helps teachers and eager students is awesome, only fallback is the people who don't! I have always thought knowledge blesses everyone, but certain social constructs help people live their necessary life to complete a circle of life! People who don't have farmers have no food, People who don't have constructors have no buildings, people who don't have something as simple as irrigation have no water! The simple things in your life are carried out without your knowledge, you pay a bill while the ones making it happen are ridiculed, demoralized and called lazy while you turn on a faucet! Think twice before you degrade your fellow human!
If only it were so easy to fix our education system! We can know for sure that this isn’t the solution – because American teachers earn more than Finnish teachers. A teacher in Finland with 15 years experience earns $37,500 a year, compared to $45,225 for an American teacher with the same level of experience. And that doesn’t even take into account that the cost of living is 30% higher in Finland.
Doctors in Finland only earn $70,000 a year, so perhaps “In Finland we pay doctors like teachers” is a more appropriate claim.
The only true part of the meme is regarding mandatory testing and recess. There is no mandatory testing in Finish schools, with the exception of a National Matriculation Examination taken at the end of high school. How additional time to play kickball plays a role in the success of Finish education remains a mystery however.
This meme is a load of crap. How many of Finlands universities are in the top 100?
Also, spending like zero on your own self defense and that of other countries is nice for the balance sheet. Being racially homogenous and having few people who regard welfare as a hammock to rest in for life is also a plus.
In the US we can't fire incompetent teachers because they're union employees. So, adding another hour of recess and shoveling more money to the teachers' unions won't help despite it "working" elsewhere.
