You wet the toothbrush the first time to "clean it off". The second time is to activate the tooothpaste. Duh!

"Back in the day" toothpaste as we know it didn't exist. They used powder that had to be wetted to turn it into paste. Some habits just die hard.

Semi-unrelated but for those who don't know: Brush up and down, not side to side. Side to side can actually erode the parts of your gumline that descend/ascend between your teeth.

My grandpa said that when he was young and still in mexico he and his family would brush their teeth by rubbing a burnt tortilla over them

Idk if this is weird, but i stopped using toothpaste almost a year ago. Whenever i brushed my teeth with toothpaste i always felt like my teeth weren't completely clean (and i wasn't lazy or something, i properly washed them) and since i stopped, i don't anymore. Interestingly, i almost never have a bad breath in the morning and if i brush my teeth after eating, there isn't any either (exept if i eat garlic etc.)
