Vikings: So you're saying that there are two giant continents full of you guys?
Native Americans: Yep.
Vikings: Oh...we'll just be moving on then.
Native Americans: Smart move.
@lemmingoverlord The Spanish crown never had a single piece of that money, it wall went to German bankers whom the crown was in debt as the Spanish crown was going into a lot of debt to maintain catholicism in the rest of Europe

ignore the fact that most natives died from diseases... we died from their diseases too.
probably looked around and said wow these savages kill kidnap rape and murder so much they can keep the land we don't want to live here where to civilized. err i mean oh rite the vikings were a kind and generous sort with a gentle spirit only the other terrible white men killed the peaceful kind and gentle indians
Oh, please, like Europeans were so much more civilized during this timeframe. July 31, 1492: King of Spain forcibly expels all known Jews from the country. Shout out to ..... Sultan Bayezid II, for guaranteeing the refugees safe passage into his own lands.
The government wasn't former yet, we had yet to become our own country and free ourselves from Britain's rule. Columbus and his men constantly killed the natives and actually had them as slaves, which killed more of them. Of course given that most of them died from diseases FROM the settlers, records do show Columbus being a mad man, even for his time, and there are written documents going into detail of what Columbus as a person alone had done to the natives.
Columbus might have had slaves and he in the end went to prison but he DIDN'T commit mass genocide, and I know the government wasn't set up but I am also reminding that apart from Europe, the governments all across America did also commit mass genocide over their black population or Indian native population

I really feel like you should retake American history. Columbus literally killed the majority of native Americans
I can tell you that he didn't, just think about it and consider how long we were in America, how long the Portuguese, the French and the English were there, plus I am Spanish and I have never studied in the US
Well, Columbus *himself* didn't do that much of the direct genocide - he actually didn't set foot on the mainland American continent that many times, if I remember correctly. This is not to imply that Columbus was exactly a great guy. He was kind of murdery and rapey and definitely did not give a shit if his men got violent, so long as they weren't bad enough that the locals attacked back in an organized fashion.
Now, there's the whole "Columbus introduced smallpox" thing, but I don't think that counts as Columbus literally killing the majority, especially since his crew was far from the only source of infection.
AND the Republic of Lakotah was ratified by the US as an independent country and the government decided it was too valuable and claimed the country back
Well, the blog entry she posted didn't have any obvious falsehoods in it - at least, nothing that stuck out to me. It was just very broadly phrased - i.e., interpreted the indirect results of Columbus's actions as directly his fault, etc. I really don't think there was a government involved in the colonial movement of the era that wasn't partially responsible for one genocide or another.
Seriously, they signed saying that the Republic of Lakotah was independent in 1861 but since the land was so valuable, they took back the land from the republic in 1871
The person who shared this is racist and ignorant. That person should read a bit about the xenophobic and racist anti-Spanish black legend. Racists who share this, and racists who applaud, should know that your hate and ignorance are our smile.
Guest, you just can't say that. This is not racism but just misinformation and everybody has the right to be wrong just once. FYI you can check the debate between thesassyllama and myself in the comments of this same post
