When the lava flow came out of the top of the mountain, it created a circular flow, as the lava came out all sides equally. The lava reacts with the soil and creates very fertile ground because of the minerals inside of lava. This is in fact why many people live near volcanoes, as the soil is so fertile they are willing to take the risk.
While the guest is correct about volcanic fertility, that's not the reason why it's circular.
