Yea bitches. It's kind of screwed up the way people keep saying Mexican, like they're the only ones sneaking in. Argentinian, Guatemalan, Chinese, Columbia, El Salvadorian, our "guests" come from a lot of places.
if we're talking about unemployment, illegal immigrants (no matter where they come from) can be employed for less than minimum wage, meaning companies would rather employ them than American citizens. so this notion on this ridiculous sign doesn't make much sense. and there are thousands of homeless veterans and American citizens already. starving children. we should help our own citizens before we help the entire world. I can't take the load off your broken cart if my cart is broken too
Granting legal status to all undocumented immigrants in the United States as part of a comprehensive immigration reform and allowing them to work legally would increase their state and local tax contributions by an estimated $2.1 billion a year. I think this is a win-win. Good for immigrants (get legal status) and good for taxpayers (not as high taxes)
but why is there any motivation to gain citizenship if they can reap the benefits like public schools and our overburdened healthcare system if they don't pay taxes? trust me, I LOVE legal immigrants. I have friends from France, Germany, England, Canada, and Puerto Rico. but if we are giving all these benefits regardless of naturalization then there's no motivation to gain citizenship. for some reason people don't understand the difference between illegal and legal immigration.
I'm a legal immigrant and I know what is like to fear for your life so I think that if you come from a really bad place you shouldn't be deported, unless you're a criminal of course.
technically being an illegal immigrant is being a criminal. coming from some place that's terrible doesn't mean it's okay to burden those who are also in a hard place.
@pokethebear Reagan granted illegals amnesty, not citizenship. They still didn't pay taxes.
@jmvail How can you say in one comment that employers pay illegals below minimum wage, and in the next say that there is no incentive to get citizenship?
@jmvail That right there is the incentive to become a citizen. Be treated like a real citizen and don't fear deportation.
@pokethrbear that's why we create an easier path to citizenship. So prople arent always looking for shortcuts
@chakun, maybe he should make his country a little more hospitable so they stay and the South Americans don't just cross as fast as possible.
@carne_asada, how simple do you want it? So many are not even trying! I wanted to buy my wife a car for her birthday but the process was difficult and cost money for the vehicle and insurance and registration so I stole one that was already registered instead.
yea but what if there's a shooter and the only way to save your life is to steal the car? It's not like they're saying "oh I just feel like crossing the border"
@chakun yes that is very concerning but I never said anything about that
@pokethebear that's what I'm saying. If the car you wanted to buy was easy to get, why not just buy a new one instead of stealing one?
(I did buy it irl.)My comment was pointing out that instead of investing time, money and some paperwork to gain one of the assorted legal status available many of these people are "stealing the car" instead, and there are penalties for stealing cars. Anything worth having is worth working for.
(Lol I never suspected you of that XD)
Okay. Yes. A citizenship is worth working for, BUT there are clearly people who don't want to, hence illegals. So why not make it easier to buy the car so it's not extremely difficult to get citizenship. (Yes, it is difficult. I am a child of two immigrants.)
my best friend immigrated from France. yes, it's difficult. mostly due to high capacity. making it easier to get citizenship might actually help, perhaps. but right now there are people in Washington and all over the country saying there is no difference between illegals and legals (which kind of spits in the face of those who worked for their citizenship) and they wish to give rights regardless. that's just wasting money.
Who says there is no difference?
.
Having a slightly difficult process intentionally precludes those that don't care enough to become citizens, those people are not welcome.
@jmvail Yeah those people are dumb. I'm not a crazy liberal like them and have basically never called someone racist because of their immigration stance.
@chakun Yep. Some should be deported, but not all in my opinion. Mexicans have the right to believe whatever they want.
@pokethebear To be eligible to apply for an immigrant visa, a foreign citizen must be sponsored by a U.S. citizen relative, U.S. lawful permanent resident, or a prospective employer. It doesn't matter how bad you want it. If you don't have any connections in the US, you can basically never get a permanent visa. Also, it is highly subjective for many immigration officers. If they are in a good mood one day, they might accept you. If they have bren having a rough day, they could deny you.
No. I just said why there is not equal oppurtunity. You have to be sponsored by a US permanent resident, an employer, or a university. What about someone who has no connections in the US?
H2 visa is for agricultural workers, non permanent
O visa is for temporary workers, non permanent
T visa is for victims of human trafficking, for people already in the US
U visa is for victims of crimes, for people already in the US
DV visa only takes 50k anually, and by definition is random selection.
Yeah. For legal temporary status, you still need to be sponsored by an employer. Only high skilled immigrants will be let in. Mediocre ones won't. Yet mediocre American-borns will thrive in America.
Sorry. We don't need hundreds of thousands more people every year. Until the border is secure and illegals are naturalized or evicted and we can start over and assess our needs.
Don't stop having restriction, just let more people in. Let in a slightly lower standard of immigrant in. Not only the best of the best. Maybe... the second best of the best.
