We re fucking poor and diamonds are basically useless with little to no resale value at all. I tried to sell the ring my ex bought me and the jewelr literally offered me 8$ for something that cots 500$. Thats why.

You could probably burn it and get more money from the energy than that. Hell, the way textbook resales are, I could burn my textbooks and save more money with the heat than I'd get from selling.

Diamonds aren't rare, despite what the jewelerw tell you. The reason they say a diamond is forever is because they don't want you to resell it.

The modern market for diamonds was created by the diamond cartels, a handful of corporations that control most of the worlds supply. Many of these men are wanted criminals in the US and are guilty of monopoly and antitrust laws as well as the human cost to the diamond industry. Lab diamonds can be made in such high quality that the only way to tell they are fake is they are too perfect to be real. The diamond companies had fits and lobbied all sorts of restrictions on lab diamonds as well as buying control in many enterprises to suppress their use outside industry. Diamonds are valued for refractory quality but have poorer refractory qualities than cubic zirconia (which is seen as a "cheap" diamond thanks to campaigns by... big diamond.) in short- the whole industry makes the finance industry look like saints. It's a dirty waste of money for a tiny lousy rock driven by consumerist marketing and a basal monkey thought of "shiny is good!"

Was going to give the same rant but you did it better than I could. I hope I never want to propose to a girl that wants a diamond ring, it's a marketing scam and an incredibly idiotic purchase if you're not in the top 1%. Idk why people would be dumb enough to take out fuckin loans on one

This "millennials killed x market" or "why aren't millennials buying x" crap drives me crazy. You can either have the American myth where everyone pulls themselves up by their bootstraps and those who gripe about affordable college or making a living wage are just lazy/morally deficient, or you can have young people who are able to buy luxury goods. Pick one and stop making the narrative about how our generation is ruining everything.

Why make this a gender thing? This post has literally 0% to do with gender. Are you trying to start a shitstorm or do you really see a "gender war" in absolutely everything?

That's just because marketting and culture program you to think that. It shouldn't have anything ti di with gender anyway; that's stupid.

^Exactly, diamonds are probably the biggest con that the industry pulled off at our expense. Still not a gender thing though.
