It's actually more in the middle of the car. Most supercars are mid-engined. Only a few cars (off the top of my head) have engines in the back; the Porsche 911, older VW Beetles and older Fiat 500s.

Most supercars have the engine in the back, only a few don't have it, like the Skyline GT-R, hell of an engine, brutal 700 hp.

Again, most supercars are mid-engined, behind driver but infront of the rear axel. Cars with engines over or behind the rear axel are considered rear-engined cars.
