Same for when people tell me I'm naturally smart. Um no, I worked hard and studied hard to get the grades I deserve. Telling me I'm naturally smart whenever I get something right is rude because you're disregarding all the effort I put in to get something done right
I always have mixed feelings on "luck."
I think luck only applies to certain professions.
A blue collar worker who works 40+ hours a week never gets a "big break," where they go from $40k/year to $150k/per because someone "notices," them. If hard work were the only thing that mattered, soldiers would make as much as professional athletes.
A blue collar worker doesn't have the opportunity to be "lucky," probably because they know that "luck," has never payed a bill. Actors and other folks of the sort are in a high risk/high reward business. Anyone CAN be an actor, not everyone WILL, and whether you will or won't be can depend on things you can't control like appearance or if you're in the right place at the right time.
Despite all of that, there is definitely still a big luck element to his success. I am not saying that he isn't talented. I am just saying that there are literally millions of people in the U.S. alone that go through the same shit as he does, and probably at least a hundred thousand that would have comparable acting ability if they were in his spot. Lots of people work hard and never get shit from it, so saying that luck has nothing to do with it is equally a spit on them.
