She made" a point" as said in the post, a smart one, as praised by her son, and a point = statement, I can understand that it's a joke, but her son made it into a valid (by his standards) statement, especially by posting it as some kind of greeeat revelation. Mom was kidding (or not) Son thought there might be some truth and/or wisdom in it.
