I'd help him up and ask two favors.
1. Give my sister a free ride through whatever school she wants
2. Give me a chance to meet some of the military higher ups and prep me for special forces training.
Extort him for money so that I don't have to spend huge amounts of time writing grant proposal after grant proposal, just to keep the lab running, so I can try to make some progress in an understudied cancer.
Good luck. I've a relative that was diagnosed with ovarian cancer last week. My wife survived breast cancer, battered disfigured, sterile and destroyed, but alive.
That sucks, man. Not the survival part, but all the rest. Ovarian cancer is certainly not one of the better cancers to get, but there are some subtypes that are fairly slow growing and respond to hormone and other therapies (e.g. MEK inhibitors). I'm not an MD, and nearly every therapy I utilize is in preclinical stages.
I think they were going for the slang for money, as in they would rescue him for money (which thusly intensifies their cabbage). But I most certainly could be wrong.

Mattis for president!
