I think the computer technology field actually calls this the geek factor.
No matter how robust and well tested something is, once released into the wild, the geek public WILL find the flaws.
Same holds true for the "unsolvable." Say that and the geek public will take it as a dare and try their damnedest to prove you wrong.
Put enough eyes on it and enough brute force computing power behind it and the problem will crumble.
