How do you keep something airfull without it being airtight? Also, the "air" is here for the protection of your chips.

Also it's not air, it's nitrogen which keeps them fresh . I agree they put too much of it but still, it has its function

to be fair most times I smelled the vomity doritoes smell was during camp with a bunch oof boys aged 7-12... it was a while ago but I can still remember the smell

Live in FL. Last year, coffee washed up from PR or Cuba. Lots of people on the beach picking it up.
