Fracking really has nothing to with it, it's a false correlation. The fact it's a natural gas rich area causes this.

In any case you definitely don't want to smoke on the toilet during your daily business. I have seen/heard of people's tap water turning to a sludge while fracking was going on but I'm not fully sure of that, a few of the people who made those claims locally are known money hounds so any chance for a get-rich-quick they jump on it.
