Hell yeah I do grasp his character. But he's a MUCH deeper and more interesting character than just a "shitposting skeleton". I see you don't quite grasp all the secrets of Undertale.
I don not take all this fan theories as solid truth until they get proven canon.
Don't get me wrong, I love the secrets and G is my absolute favourite character DUE TO his vagueness.
But when it comes to Sans I take what I see at face value and describe him as that. I love the theories, I love the mysteries, and I love the vague background. But I have no solid proof to piece it together. So I describe what I see. And I liked the description the OP gave him.
That is my end. Just thought I would get that out of the way first.
Ok but even if the theories are not true, Sans himself said that he's a time traveller which is solid proof that he's a deeper character than most make him out to be.

Well wasn't it that he wasn't a time traveler but in his lab he could study timelines?
I'm not sure about the timelines thing but check this out: /watch?v=EoxUZmuZr8M it's the secret conversation that you get when you reload after the real one (pacifist run only of course). Mind the part when he gives you the key and it says "when you looked, the key was already on your keychain" so he has to be a time traveller.

No he gives you a code because he thinks you're a time traveler when it's the SAVE points
I know, Frisk has the save points, but Sans can time travel, hence the key thing. Unless you think that Sans also has save points but I don't think that's the case. And save points are also time travelling, in a way.

He can't time travel he can teleport and he understands and studies timelines changing but he can't do it himself
That would explain the key thing. I tried to look it up on Undertale wiki but it's all confusing and sends me to pages with stuff that isn't even in the game unless you manipulate the game files, and a lot of the stuff is about Gaster, so yeah.
