There's pretty substantial lakes in Malawi, the Congo is the 2nd largest river in the world. The bigger issue is, if this is where human being started. If this has been the home to civilization the longest; why don't they have their shit together? I live in a country that's 150 years old with less resources than most African countries and we have an amazing standard of living. Hey Africa! Build an aqueduct already! You don't even have to invent one, the technology is 2 millenniums old.
@ghengistron- You mention Malawi and the Congo which suggests you are aware that Africa is a continent and not a country. Like Moldovia and Serbia are quite different than the U.K. or Germany, or like how in North America many don't have free healthcare or even clean water? The Hoover Dam farmers disputes, these will give you some information on water rights. As for age- Detroit was founded in the 1700's and Dubai in the 1800's. In 1967 Detroit was a nicer place to live. Societies and locations gain and lose resources and wealth in cycles. You'll need to read a lot of history to see why colonial Africa became modern Africa after ww2, but let's say the west played a hand there leading up and after. Many African nations are wealthy and or have high standard of living. Many ssues like war and disease complicate industrialization as does past interference and Western installed govt's and their mass genocides as recent as the 80's on. You must read to learn. It's not so simple as you think.
I mean, it's not like they were subject to the mass abduction of millions of their people, many of whom were youth, and the carving up of their lands into colonies for European powers for the exploitation of their wealth, regardless of tribal and ethnic borders. Oh wait...
It's 2017, time to stop believing that being born into a nationality is somehow your great accomplishment. With all the ills of your home country what have you personally done? What text book or news article can I read of your great deeds in? What great social change have you made or infrastructure have you built to better your society? You expect more of Africans than you do yourself? I doubt the arm chair quarter backs of the world are in a good position to lecture others for not braving death or struggling to enjoy the same things they happened to be born into, especially when their daily routine often already involves struggles for the basic necessities of survival.
The size of Congo, with a population of 80 million...
Vs
The population of Africa, 1.216 billion...
Now you tell me, how a majority uneducated 6,5% of Africa can save all of Africa?
