I agree on the principals and that this thinking is the right way to work with people. However i dont believe his plan will result in a drop in work comp claims for Tesla. I actually think it will rise.
1) people will report more claims for a chance to meet Musk.
2)Musk is the visionary of the company. He can either concentrate on growing an even greater company or manage the day to day people, not both. At some point he wont have the time to meet all the injured people and mimic their jobs. the employees will resent him and the company for it, personal accountability will drop and injuries will further rise.
I think it sets a good example for the rest of his management team to follow. From my experiences, the gap between the employees and management is an ever growing chasm in that many managers don't come up from the ranks any more and often they don't know the jobs being performed and the risks involved. I've had foremen tell me to do incredibly dangerous things simply because they don't know better. Just my two cents.
