I recall a notable account of a famed writer leaving a school event centered on their book because the faculty and students were arguing with them about the meaning of what they had written! I don't remember who and am too lazy to google right now.
I googled it. Should have remembered. Uhg. It was Ray Bradbury. In a lecture on Fahrenheit 451 he was trying to explain the book was about mass media and the dumbing down of society, people wouldn't stop arguing that it was about censorship, so he left.
