See this is why I refer to police officers, EMT, Fireman, and people just like them, the real superheros. Because they put their life on the line everyday. They do so many things for us and yet given so little in return.
Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, and all those others they are not superheros they are comicbook heros.
These men and women are the real superheroes and I am so proud that my Dad was one.
Being a first responder is an honorable and necessary profession for modern life, they are indeed the closest thing to having superheroes.
I can also say that I understand part of why they do it.
Saving a life is a rush too. An incredible rush knowing that you just made a very real difference and impact on another's life.
I happened upon an accident scene and noted with a fair bit of horror, there were no flashing lights. It had JUST happened. Now, stopping is the right thing to do, but with the minimal training and equipment I had, I felt obligated. Roll over with ejection, in the darkness, I almost ran past the victim laying on the pavement.
Breaking open my first aid kit, I handed a pair of gloves to the woman who was already trying to tend to him and put some on myself. With the little I had in the kit, we patched him up just enough to buy him the time he needed until the EMTs arrived.
