Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...ummmmmmmmmmm....no. That's a demotion. Generals fight (send others to fight) for political leaders. Of course there are some monarchies that have led and fought in battles but generally speaking, Generals work for princess.

Princesses don't have authority. Queens have authority. Princesses are daighters of authority figures or wives of future authority figures. They don't give orders. In fiction, when you go from that to having authority over some of the very cogs of war, it's a promotion.

Also, Buttercup was only a princess by marriage to an evil prince and Leia's entire kindom was blown to ittybitty bits by Daddy. Niether had any actual power or influence. Both general though were revered and held a great deal of both.

Generals also earn respect and power and many times work their way up through ranks, a princess is just born into the right circumstances.

A princess is also forced into power. A general wants it badly enough to have worked hard for it.
