This metaphor shows just how unhealthy teaching can be to one's mental health. Any teacher or kids of teachers know that their work day doesn't end when the last bell rings; they bring their work home and wake up as early as 2 a.m to begin again. Enduring this for 8-9 months is an immense amount of stress. Teachers literally consume themselves in stress to help give the next generation a better future.
I didn't know you were from America, I'm from the UK, and as such I am not qualified to make judgements the way I did. For that I apologise. I'm not disrespecting teaching staff from my own country mind. I know that although there are some that are just coasting along until their retirements there are a great many more that work long hours in what can be a very stressful job. I just don't know of anyone that gets up that time of day (night) to work. Though there might be a few that lay awake at that time worrying about their work.
Aww thanks (did you look through my comments to find out that I'm American?). This is the nicest comment I've gotten online. I don't know how respected teachers are in the UK, but in the US, teachers are often treated as scapegoats if something goes wrong with a kid's education when oftentimes it's really just the kid not exerting enough effort.
You typed Mom which I believe to be an Americanism (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong). As I'm from England I would say Mum. As for saying something nice, well I treat others as I would like to be treated and if what I wrote made your day just that little bit brighter then even better! It's difficult to say how well teachers are respected here in the UK. I think a big part of the problem nowadays is that parents don't back up the school when it comes to enforcing rules etc. Many parents believe their children to be little angels when often the truth is very different. Some children think they have a god given right to do what they want when they want to do it and this attitude is often backed up by their parents. I believe discipline and respect is something that should be taught at home as well as at school. It's reciprocal. Unfortunately more and more often this is failing to happen.
Kid: Nothing. The teacher just kinda dripped on us.
