I can see the banner now: "We must break the food chains created by man to oppress the less privileged species!" Smh. I suppose there is a question here. As humans we alter or subvert a state of natural occurrence as suits us. Where does the line exist where we mustn't meddle with the order of things, and what in nature can we be allowed to change? I don't know the answer but I'm going to say nope to this noise. I doubt we have the capacity to engineer an entire biosphere on a planetary scale down to a microscopic level. So I'll pass here thank you. Too far.
Meat eaters have higher calorie requirements. So aside from allowing herbivorous populations to increase unchecked, they'd also be modifying the means to function right out of the carnivores.

We need predators to keep the herbivore population down. Disease, injury, and age doesn't do it well enough so we need predators to speed up the process. These people clearly have never read a book about nature or watched Crocodile Hunter
I watched an episode of Croc Hunter earlier this morning/last night... dude picked up a gator who had it's bottom jaw halved... like cleaved down the middle with the tongue hanging all lopsided,... stuck his finger into the clocea (sp) to check the sex and was like... oh it's a female she has a good chance! Then he ran off.
nope.... he was just like "g'luck mate!" and dipped. My point is... dudeman is the face of conservation... and if that stingray didn't get him; this stupidity would have caused a heart attack.
Don't get carried away. Removing undesirable traits just might be what it takes to cause humanity to stagnate. At the very least, life would be less interesting.
so we should eliminate all carnivores? How do you control herbivore populations after that? Are deer, rabbits and rats going to suddenly start preforming safe-sex?
It's a fucking stupid idea and deserves all the ridicule. Sure, it sucks that pain exists... but this is a real world, not fantasy.
Nature gives us plenty of reason not to stagnate; psychopathy just holds us back.
And no, we wouldn't "eliminate" carnivores; did you even read what was posted? Dunno exactly what we'd do to keep herbivores from eating all the plants and breeding to extinction, but if we can change carnivores to herbivores, we can find a solution for that as well.
Advocating to use genetic modification to fundamentally eliminate carnivorous dispositions from nature and using what is effectively human eugenics to eliminate undesirable traits is pretty militant.
