Not just parents, but friends. My cousin, absolutely terrified of heights, began crying when she was pretty much forced onto a ride by her friends who were really persistent. Even though the adrenaline is fun, it's not worth it for everyone. The poor thing was sobbing and gagging the whole way through. So yeah, while facing fears is pretty awesome, don't force them if they're not at least slightly willing.

I'm of a mixed opinion on this because I've known several children that were afraid until they were forced to ride something and found out they actually loved it. I've also seen children that remained afraid. Children that weren't afraid become afraid and children that even though they remained afraid still enjoy it but need the boost of someone riding with them. Really the only way is learning how your child will react and unfortunately for everyone this is a trial and error process.
