You must have not read some of my comments where I talk about my family. Those people are not to be trusted with ab old square box tv let alone a brand new mount on wall tv.
Let me clarify, stud finders are not quite accurate since they just detect metal, studs are wood. Therefore what you think may be a stud behind the drywall might actually be a pre existing nail that may have been painted over. It's best to find an electrical outlet/light switch and measure from there seeing as how they are mounted on the sides of studs.
Stud finders would kinda be useless if they only detected metal don't you think? Many homes are built with wooden studs and obviously, stud finders can detect wooden studs.
True, but like the article said, most studs are 16 inches apart, so using common sense it would be pretty easy to distinguish studs from pipes or wiring. Additionally, many modern stud finders have features that distinguish ac and metal from wooden studs.
(But then again my dad does drywall and hammered this shit into me for most of my life)
