Thank you. If we keep throwing around words lightly, they're going to lose meaning just like the word "feminist" did. If you want to get angry, get angry at real racists who are tell at a person in public just because they're wearing a hijab. This is the same for both homophobic and sexist jokes as well
Just because you tell one joke about, let's say, black people
you won't be racist. These are jokes that even black people could laugh at if you told them
I know there is not much racism against whites (because we are "priviliged") but when someone tells a white racist joke, I don't get butthurt, just laugh (If it's a good joke)
edit because I made some typos
here’s another thing: as a black guy, don’t baby us.
there’s a difference between being someone who isn’t black and saying that someone has gone too far, and being someone who isn’t black and getting offended instead of the black person themselves. If i can laugh at a joke about black people being called antique farm equipment, you are out of your mind if you’re criticizing me for laughing out of it, sibce I’m black.
You can point out racism and that’s fine, but a white person cannot tell one black person what THEY should believe about anti-black racism.
People can be racist against their own race, though, and there is nothing more annoying than somebody using one person's reaction to justify their bad joke, like all black people should feel the same.
Ok, guest, you have reached critical levels of cognitive dissonance if you believe that people are racist AGAINST THEIR OWN RACE. That is some next level bullshit and you know it, even if you won't admit it. Second, the point that is trying to be made is that jokes are not racist, and it is up to the discretion of the person who is telling the joke. Sure, racist people can say racist jokes, but acting like a mortal sin has been committed when someone overhears a joke like that without gauging the reaction of the person who is receiving the joke is way over the line.
To the first statement, saying one can't be racist against their own race is proven false. That's like saying a person can't hate themselves or can't dislike their own culture. For the second part it's more complex. People may misunderstand you and label you something you aren't. That's their perception, however at a certain point our actions and words determine who we are and not our self identity. Interventions exist because often an alchohilic won't admit or be aware they have a problem. People who say things like a given race is inferior or all the same will say they aren't racist when by definition that is racism. If I walk around insulrung people all day and wether I mean to be an asshole or not, wether I think I am or not, people will agree I'm an asshole.
Fact that I find most interesting is that one group of people can use a word that I'm not allowed to use, but I'm racist for pointing that out, although it's not racist that it's true.
Let us examine this. There are no "hard rules" around the word, no treaty was signed and you won't be arrested for saying it. You'll hear a lot of people of all races say the word doesn't bother them, or that they grew up with a black person who gave them permission, or they grew up in a largely black area and it's part of their culture too. Here's the thing: it's a word. You can say it, just like any word you can say it any time you like, but people will come to their own thoughts based on what comes out of your mouth. Just like you likely not call your mom or your job interviewer a "little bitch" but freely use it affectionately with friends. The social context matters with words. You can usually assume most people will not approve of this words use. Like all language you aren't required to use it in a socially acceptable way. You're free to ignore other people, just be ready to ingone all the people who will treat you like cancer if you ignore the history and sensitivity of the word
holy shit dude it’s just a joke chill out
all i said was that an argument was brewing. people do this every time a controversial post is submitted here. even if it’s not an “argument”, we like to act as though there will be one, because, more often than not, a post like this will become a shitstorm.
that is usually one of the signs of racism is when you make an inappropriate joke about somebody in most cases they cant measure the ammount of hate you have for certain races of people.
How do you tell a racist making racial jokes and remarks from a non racist? Let's say you grew up with an Asian best friend. You two rob each other all the time with "offensive stereotypes" and humor and it's all good because you know each other. Now walk up to a stranger in a bar or a random police officer an make a joke about their race. They MIGHT laugh, likely not. On the internet, a text based medium full of many strangers, a racial joke might not be racist, but things like tone are hard to judge. The "ridiculous" stereotype that's "obviously a joke" is being said seriously on some chat board by people who believe it. So how are strangers supposed to know you aren't just another moron when all they see are your words, and those words are racist without context? So maybe it's not racist but you can't blame people for thinking it is on the web, where people tend to let their dark sides show without shame.
well its too bland of an idea to say a racist joke doesnt make you racist if you walk up to a black guy you barley know and say hey what do you call a bunch of black people in a barn? Antique farm equipment. That person then has the right to assume you are racist. You barley know them and you made a highly sensitive joke it is not unreasonable to assume you are racist. OF course context matters but it doesnt mean it cant be interpreted different
im sure you do but most people especially people who you dont know in real life would not find it funny and would be able to assume you are racist with good reason.
i know most people would, that’s why i would save a joke like that for a specific clique. my thing is that someone who is not me cannot tell me what to get offended about. If i want to laugh at a slavery joke because it’ll make me feel better, no one can tell me that I, one person who does not represent all Africans, am racist for my personal opinion.
you won't be racist. These are jokes that even black people could laugh at if you told them

It's a ritual for all lesbians, don't you know
