PR is important too. If the people don't recognise the police as decent, relatable people, they will be less willing to approach or cooperate with them.
This is also New South Wales... Outside Sydney and the coast it's like... the Iowa state police.... not much too do. Also, the Blue Mountain Police Rescue are like forest rangers.
Do you really think the police are occupied every moment of the day, 24/7? No it's totally unlikely that the person running the page decided to make his and a couple other's day better by posting this
i expect policeman to do their job while at their job, if you can show evidence that this is a private account maintained after hours, plus a letter giving them permission to use the official police log on a private account i will gladly retract my complaints.

Maintaining a twitter account IS their job dumbass. They will post REGARDLESS so the fact that he spent a few extra seconds making it funnier connects to with average people and makes them seem easier to approach. How old are you
how many crimes does paying a full time employee to post on twitter solve?

Please answer how old you are before continuing this conversation, because if you are still in school you can talk to your teachers to educate yourself.
I'm 26. please answer the question of how many crimes this twitter account has solved. Please break it down into the context of crime solved per dollar value spent, and then graph it with a comparison to an equivalent full time police officer actually working a case to determine public money that is being misappropriated .
It isn't an exact science. Good PR is imperative to an officer's ability to serve and protect. Social media is a method of improving PR. This isn't complicated.

Oh so youre just stupid, okay. If you are to dumb to understand how seeming more approachable to potential victims that may need you is helping them with crimes then i cant help you. Its not like they chose stopping a school shooting over updating their page you wet twat. You sound like that one guy that comes to a store 1 minute before closing and demands they turn their registers back on for you and then take 2 hours to leave
wouldn't solving more crimes in itself be better PR? wouldn't paying the person to be actually speaking to victims f crime be better than a picture of a snake? Wouldn't them also crediting the photos origin to show they value upholding all aspects of the law, instead of picking and choosing who they protect so that there was a clear signal that if approached by a victim there would be no reason to worry about interaction with officers, which i assume is what you were implying spreading memes would do?

WTF do you expect him to do you imbecile, create more crime so everyone at the station would never have anything better to do but stop criminals. If he had something better to do, he probably wouldve been assigned to it.
I'd say he should probably be transferred to a higher crime area, make staff and assets a more flexible commodity to better utilize public money in the fight against crime. Or participate in community based crime intervention and prevention tasks to minimize risk of the crime being committed in the first place. Go talk to at risk youth, engage with local homeless support networks and build relationships with rehabilitation programs to minimize re offence and negate revolving door criminals. Or you know, he could jerk off to memes in the back room as you are suggesting.
You are thinking to much like a machine and forgetting the human aspect. Police officers are public servants, and need to be relatable to the public in order to efficiently do their jobs. An unapproachable police force just casts suspicion in the minds of citizens and makes people mistrustful of them. The benefits of good PR makes all the differences in the world, whether it's for police departments or large multi-billion dollar companies. By posting funny content, they are showing that they are human, that they are approachable and trustworthy. Seeing cops constantly arrest people doesn't make them approachable. Sure it's good to see them doing their "actual" jobs and protecting others, but it can also make them look hostile and too serious. If you need help, you are much more willing to contact someone that has proven themselves to be human.
how many times have you rung the police since seeing this meme?

DICKHEAD listen. Lets say a girl got raped and is uneasy about coming out about it because she is afraid of the backlash. Seeing something like this might make her feel like the police are more down to earth and are going to listen and help her
so you think the twitter is able to be accessed by each individual officer in the NSW police. sounds like they are continuously seconds away from a PR nightmare.

How high is the crime rate there
You are literally making shit out of nothing
Im too tired to deal with people like you so can someone else tell him how dumb he is
you realise the way to end this argument would have been to compare social media reach advertising to traditional media costs. Instead of yelling "PR needs to exist", you could have addressed a reduced PR cost of tweets compared to TV ads, but you were busy yelling about the wrong thing.

So you know how to prove yourself wrong? And you still insist that you are right?
Okay
if you bothered to read the thread before engaging you would see we are arguing over my preference that "i wish the police stopped crime instead of posting memes".

Yes. Normally when people argue for a certain side, its because they believe that side is correct
probably, but that wasn't the topic of debate here.

It wasnt? It kinda sounded like you were complaining that the police were posting memes so people were trying to tell you that you are overreacting. No one said this was an either/or thing
it is not my fault if you misinterpreted what are very clear statements on my behalf, was your misunderstanding due to either from haste or your own intention or agenda? please reread entire thread.

Nah it seems like a pointless argument really so im done. And saying "id wish the police stopped crime instead of posting memes" implies that the policeman here is doing something wrong so you never made it clear that you were going off topic from the post itself
The local police in my area are also on social media, they often post stills from security cameras, or missing person's information and public alerts (storm warnings, traffic alerts and so on) and they do get tips that help solve crimes or find people. So you may see social media use by law enforcement as a waste but it does have a positive effect.
They don't post memes, usually a picture and descriptions, and to my knowledge they've solved probably 5 cases in the last three years that way although two were found deceased.
so you agree they should post more useful things, actually related to police work instead of memes?

Nah, they can spice up their job every once in a while, but mainly police work. And with the police work, as long as its descriptive, idc that it is funny
@drench they were called to a house to remove a snake (a small python, not dangerous).. took a picture and put it up on the police account. That takes a grand total of 30 seconds.... if anything it's worth it so ignorant people don't unnecessarily kill harmless pythons. If it saves a single pythons life or prevents the police from being called for something so silly even ONCE... it was worth the 30 seconds.
no they correctly told people to not call the police over pythons. Again... look up where this police force is... the Blue Mountain Police Rescue patrols a freaking national park.... they are more forest rangers than cops. Notice that last word... "Rescue".
so this was posted on the blue mountains police rescue account, not by nsw police account? please highlight the part where they said do not call police for wildlife related incidents.
literally look above the picture and read. They never said not to call them (brown snakes are an issue forserious in NSW)... but imagine the audience....
"no they correctly told people to not call the police over pythons"- "They never said not to call them". these are 2 things you said about the same tweet.
if there are no crimes to stop... (again this is basically the equivalent of forest rangers getting a shoutout from the state police)... what is the problem? Hell whoever was taking calls could take a call while posting it. FFS... given how remote that area is to begin with it's NOT A BIG DEAL... it's not the Sydney Police posting it.
NSW = NEW SOUTH WALES. BLUE MOUNTAIN POLICE RESCUE is in NEW SOUTH WALES... WHICH IS A STATE that contains Sydney. This is literally like blaming the LAPD for posting something from the CHP about a raccoon that forest rangers took care of in Humboldt.
It's insane.
the person in charge of NSW police social media is based in sydney. working for nsw police, from sydney. This was posted from sydney, because of being in sydney in sydney. sydney
