Of people called a random person Uncle here that's like saying there a paedophile. Like the opposite of respect.
I meant no offense - just shows how different cultures can be i suppose.

Its like is asian countries you can call your older non related friends "big brother" or "big sister"

I'm from India, and we refer to friends of our parents and grandparents as Auntie and Uncle. Storeowners and such, too. It's not weird, it's just respectful and more familiar than Mr or Mrs.

I call my parent's friend and coworkers Uncle or Aunt. It's a cultural thing.

I live in america and I call my dads friend uncle. If you find it inappropriate you may be a bit too mind in the gutter-y.
