Actually woolly bears hibernate through the winter, though I'm sure he/she still enjoyed the gesture

Yea, that's a banded woolly bear caterpillar. they go dormant through the winter and metamorphosis in the spring

Ah. Well, I've had a few in my yard I just called them fuzzy caterpillars
