This is the same reason dogs will look at their owners when they do it. Because when they do they are vulnerable and are looking to you for reassurance.

Not my dog..she wants complete privacy. No eye contact lol She'll go stand behind a tree or in a bush and if you look at her and she sees you looking she stops, moves, then continues her business
