I've been lurking here for a long time, but I still don't get how the comment section actually works.
California also provides a bunch of produce to this country that isn't corn. So... if you think that's a great idea to take all that away, I'm sorry but I highly disagree.
The issue is that farmers don't want to pay minimum to Americans because that's more than an immigrant would make. So in short farmers can get away by paying immigrants below minimum and because of the crack down they could hire Americans but they won't make profit. Cheap labor my dudes
First of all, most of the people who live in those areas were probably illegals to begin with. 2nd, I bet you anything there was virtually no advertisement for those jobs. 3rd, even if so, they were probably only offering less than minimum wage like they do with the illegals.
hmm well I guess we could raise the price of vegetables and put Americans to work. Or continue to leave them on welfare and let people from another country get the jobs instead.
The law of supply & demand should cause the pay to,rise to a level that supports the amount needed based on the price of the crops and what the owners need to cover their costs. It just doesn't happen right away. Also, the prices and pay aren't static. We don't pay the same price for computers, food, clothes or cell service each year.
Neglected is all the tax money that now ISN'T spent on the benefits to all the illegal immigrants and their families.
The food suppliers won't let crops rot in the fields forever, and taxpayers won't be on the hook to pay for welfare, Medicaid and school costs for people who entered the country illegally.
