I'm assuming as much because he said he would've been mad about being called a soldier in a different context.

From what I managed to found.
People take pride depending to what they are in the military that being called a soldier is more of an ARMY thing. You don't call a Marine a Soldier.

Or sailor despite being a part of the Navy, Marines are Marines.
