It may seem assholish but it's still correct tho. It's like saying "people advertise their prices in dollars, but be carefull, if youre paying 10dollars you're actually paying 1000 cents !!"

The point is that it's intentionally misleading. They can advertise a high gigabit number and make people think they are getting more.

In France we talk about bit and octet instead of bit and byte. No more confusion :)

It's not as bad as you think, in fractions it's only 1/8. Also the gigabit has been a industry standerd for network bandwidth for a long time, possibly since before the big ISP exited in the days of dile-up
