Over 18 and have a curfew? You're an "adult." Time to move out.

Some parents have strict rules, for instance as long as my kid lives with me there will be no smoking or alcohol use and no illegal drugs.

Yeah, not everyone can move out right away. Well, I guess technically anyone 'can'... it just might have undesirable consequences that could be avoided by living with your parents long enough to accumulate some savings.

whoa whoa whoa. Hold up. You have a kid, so i assume you're and adult, but you're not allowed to drink? I can understand the drugs and smoking, but alcohol? That's just weird, and why do you listen to that. I get that they're your parents and all, but you are an adult, you can do what you want.

I choose not to drink alcohol, partially because I have a heart condition (medication interaction) and partially because I hate the stuff, the fact that I don't allow it in my home is just a fail safe so I'm not tempted. Plus my family is known to produce 'mean drunks' my long dead uncle (chronic drunk, always had a whiskey bottle in hand) killed himself by shooting his television because the speakers quit.

Oh. That makes more sense. The way you worded it made me think you weren't allowed to drink for no reason other than drinking is illegal for underage people, and you parents are overprotective. Your actual reasons make more sense.

Legally I've been able to drink for 10 years and I have before I had a heart attack at 24 but I noticed that I had the mean drunk issue so I stopped.
