I've always felt that going after someone's car was a low and cowardly thing to do. What you can say it to their face but you can wreck their property?
Plus, if you ruin their property you can get sued for damaging personal property and shit just because you can't control your behavior. Thats not someone whos in the right, that's someone whos not emotionally stable and should not be allowed in a relationship.
Ha, that's amateur hour crap, my ex stuck a wood screw in the top of a tire on my car (the car was broken down at the time so hadn't moved anywhere to pick up a screw) and tried to steal our kids car seat, and for bonus points glued razor blades under every door handle then proceeded to write the word 'die' on my front door in red permanent marker. this was all after I was granted emergency custody.
I've done a little research into these sorts of things for stories I'm writing. This alone would likely be charges as Misdemeanor Mischief and Mayhem. The penalty would likely be 30 days in jail and a few thousand dollars in fines... but that's just for the car. It depends on the other actions she took as to how severely it would be prosecuted.
@mrdad01 's example has all the hallmarks of Felony M&M and many other charges. That can earn you multiple years of prison time.
I couldn't 'prove' it was her even though the writing matched perfectly and it had rained right before I woke up and found all this so the cops couldn't get any finger prints, plus her and her parents lied to the cops so of course she got away with it, I put up cameras the next day and they've been in use 24/7 since.
