It was a similar story in ancient Greece. Anyone who didn't speak Greek sounded like they were just going "ba ba ba.." so they were called, um, barbaroi or something - the word that we get barbarian from.
Because German is a Germanic language and all of the Slav countries have languages that come from one language, so it would be really hard for them to speak it. Also, do they mock the Hungarians because of this? @snowpanther You may be able to help us
Well wasn't Hungary founded by the Huns? They were the nomads who came across the Gobi desert from like Mongolia and northern Asia I thought. It would make more sense for them to be Chinese
It's called Tyskland or some variant in Norway, Denmark, Sweden, and Iceland.
Because tysk was related to an old norse word meaning people.
Calling it Germany or Alemania comes from words meaning Saxon, and that the whole area used to be called Germania.
Which is what Romania calls it, surprisingly simple coming from a language like theirs.
it's (I think) supposed to be mockery, but we just roll with it
we have noone who resembles our culture and language
we are aliens
also we also call German "NĂ©met"
but the way we say Hungarian is Magyar
noone else says it like that
the goverment
genetically Hungarians are the closest to Japanese people
Keep in mind that it's about as close and English is to Greek.
my grandma said that us Hungarians are the closest to Asians
