Some counties restrict times you can buy alcohol. Wyoming County NY stops at 2am, Erie County NY stops at 4am. Generally sales resume at noon. Erie runs later because second shift factory workers fifty years ago used to arrive at the bar around midnight.
New Hampshire is weirder.
Beer and wine are sold in grocery and convenience stores, hard liquor and wine is sold in liquor stores.
The liquor stores are all owned and operated by the state, but they are well run and very well stocked. As far as the times are concerned, liquor stores are open 9-10 am to 9-10 pm. I have no idea if there's time restrictions on beer and wine at other stores... there might not be.
To put how they take it seriously in perspective, two of the largest liquor stores I'm aware of are in rest stops on I93. Facing each other on the north and south bound sides.
