c'mon being on the frontlines means being closest to enemy, and the enemy is ISIS. haven't you seen what happened to news reporters who went there to film a documentary? Even if when they're inside the safe zone, firing is still taking place.

The point is that he is not actively in combat. Do you really think they just sit and wait for a fight to happen? No they have down time just like everyone else.
