I just asked my dog and she says "boof". This loosely translates to "sugar, you know damn well that I'm sentient."

Animals like dogs are very much capable of thought to an extent, they have problem solving skills for example (again, not as developed as humans, but it is there). Dogs are also capable of dreaming, if that isn't abstract, I don't know what is
I didn't knew Understanding Rick and Morty makes you an intellectual? What part of Rick and Morty do you actually understand? The scientific theories or the fact that it is all dark behind that adventurous Shit. If you keep a TV show as your mark of intellectual level then I think you need to re-evaluate your point of view regarding you being an intellectual.
No, they don't think in woofs. Dog 'language' is a combination of noise and body language. It is used for communication with other dogs. It's not for thinking and reasoning. They think without narration. Usually they just do. Dogs can count to five and do primitive addition and subtraction.
I know its a year ago but my thoughts are that dogs (and other animals) think more like in Pictures (maybe also kind of Videos) of things or places, as they don't have a language. I think language makes thinking slower. Theres memory and reaction tests they did with humans and shimpanzees but the humans were unable to be as fast and memorizing than shimpanzees were. Cause they don't have the language barrier. Just my opinion ;)
