Man
Im a Christian but Jehova's witnesses creep me out
One time they stood in front of my school
And they talked to everyone who came or left
They were like
Hey kid want a Bible
No i dont leave me alone

Scientology I agree with, but JW is an actual religion. If you ban that, you should kinda ban religion in general to be equal

That's kinda what they did though. At least proselytizing religions. I'm a Mormon, and we aren't sending missionaries to Russia right now, because they asked us to stop preaching.
We are still sending volunteers to go do service projects and be helpful, but without preaching.
My guess is that the JWs wouldn't stop the door to door pamphleteering, and they got on the wrong side of the Russians.
Just my guess, for what it's worth.
Yeah, dude, Mormons are cool. Kinda weird, but really cool. When Matt Stone and Trey Parker made their "Book of Mormon" play, instead of protesting, the Mormons had missionaries outside the play offering to talk to people about the Book of Mormon.
Yes! I saw the play. Loved it! And saw that too (missionaries outside just wanting prone to know about the religion) so I thought they have a great attitude.
The appeal of totalitarianism and other non democratic methods is they get rapid results, and when one isn't concerned with personal freedom as much as practical outcomes things are easy to stop when they seem unpleasant or dangerous. However this means that "the enemy" can change quickly and easily. When we find ourselves one day happy that the law has taken care of these "undesirables" the next day we can find ourselves being labeled "undesirable" as well. Don't be quick to celebrate a "righteous victory" obtained through questionable means.
First they came for the Communists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Communist
Then they came for the Socialists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Socialist
Then they came for the trade unionists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a trade unionist
Then they came for the Jews
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Jew
Then they came for me
And there was no one left
To speak out for me
I agree with what has been said here. For Scientology, it's a slippery slope. What can be said about Scientology that cannot be said of others phillosophies? To listen to many speak Islam is a danger to humanity, to hard line radical Islamics other faiths are just as guilty. Many an atheist will say that all religions exist to brainwash, distract, rob of money, or to give power to an elite few. Is the Catholic Church or any other major faith not accused of or guilty of crimes, conspiracy and more? If you had criteria about "shunning," manipulative behavior, etc that you could quantify and enforce across the board you could better ensure "legal" practice of faith was followed by any dicipline, but in the end it all depends on who is making the decision on what is fair or reasonable, and the criteria and effort involved.
I think the definition of "religion" has to be tightened. As of now, a religion is merely a "belief or practice that fills a gap in a person's soul that would normally be filled by belief in a god" or something like that. I think we should add the following criteria:
Its practices and/or beliefs must be completely transparent. Anybody should be able to look up the beliefs, there are no "tiers" of knowledge.
There is no criteria or restrictions in joining or leaving the religion. No pay to enter, no pay to leave.
The beliefs and practices must not (or be modifiable as to not) violate the fundamental rights of a person. No saying "everyone must commit suicide by age of fifty".
It's beliefs and practices must not have its tenets built on denigrating or tearing down the ideas or beliefs of other ideals and belief systems. Pastafarianism origninated by a letter making fun of religion.
What I find most telling is that I posted Pastor Martin Niemoler’s poem last night and quickly garnered 4 upvotes, by this morning the fascists had come any taken a few away because, despite what they claim, they support systematic oppression of almost all religion.

I am of the opinion that religion does more harm than good, but I do agree with your quote/poem thing, because oppression is never a valid answer
I have. That's why I don't understand the "ok to ban" opinion. Yeah they are a bunch of weirdos that based a religion around a self-help book that some science fiction writer pulled out of his ass but they are relatively harmless compared to other religions.
