Most Germans don't drive. Regardless of how many cars there are (richer people often have multiple) the fact is that most transit is purely done via train.
Alright alright I guess my area is the exception not the rule. Almost nobody around where I live drives though, we all walk or bike places unless its far enough that we take the trains.
I guess you live in a metropole, or close to one. I'm living in downtown Hamburg and I haven't been owning a car for more than 9 years now. So I understand your idea and your impression, but most people in Germany are living in small towns or villages and public transport is basically nonexistant in these areas.
Fun fact: 30% of all German car rides are less than 3km!
I live in Bonn so I suppose you're right. Even then whenever I visit the country side I can get most places by train or bus. (Have you been to the church of wine? Good stuff dude better than the French)
Yeah, getting somewhere by train or bus is one thing, but living in rural areas another.
Just imagine doing your grocery shopping when you have to rely on a bus that goes like twice a day only.
Church of wine? Doesn't talk to me, but as I'm originally coming from a wine producing area not so far away from Bonn, I know very well that we have a huge variety of excellent wines to offer.
Another fun fact: just tried to see how long it would take from Bonn to my hometown on Google Maps. Guess what, it told me "Die Route von "Idar-Oberstein, Deutschland" nach "Bonn, Deutschland" mit öffentlichen Verkehrsmitteln konnte nicht berechnet werden."
LOL
Oh the buses in Bonn go constantly. Schedule is not an issue unless you plan on going at a strange time of day. Most of the people I know as well as I go to school by train.
My dad was saying he gouged a hole in the car with the bike and I was worried to see what happened. It was a scratch of the paint, and in a hidden place.
46 Million registered cars. That makes 1 car per person in the age of 18-65.
