Instead of passing laws where the government pays for insurance, which makes the insurers think they can hike up the prices, we should pass laws that regulate the pricing of medicine. Same thing for colleges. We don't have the right to ask for anything for free, but we do have the right to demand it be priced reasonably and affordably.

Really though, in order of insurance to make money they had to jack up the prices of everything else. That's a problem to be solved before free healthcare.
