Because Che was never a dictator.
Also most of the people who see him as a hero are communists, so that says a lot.

... because Che lived his life to fight for what he considered to be the oppressed masses (not just Cubans, he traveled and fought throughout south america), while Castro set himself up as an absolute monarch with a thin veneer of communism.
