Retail is horrifying

As a cashier, this speaks to me on an emotional level

At one place I worked people would make that joke all the time and my supervisor told me it wasn't free when that happened, but apparently I'm just supposed to know that ALL OF A SUDDEN ONE DAY OUT OF THE BLUE IF IT RINGS UP WRONG ITS FREE AND I GET WRITTEN UP BECAUSE THE CUSTOMER COMPLAINED ABOUT ME

She smiled sweetly at the man in front of her, happy that they had finally come around to that dinner he promised her weeks ago. "Please," the man sitting in the opposite chair choked wetly, eyes flitting from the knife in her hand and the unwavering smile on her face, "please, let me go."
