Tesla making a profit would blow my mind. Billions in government subsidies, free advertising from just about every tech site, and not only is Tesla hemorrhaging money, but the fit and finish on the cars is crap.

Quality is largely subjective. I'll agree the roadster was sloppy, but lotus bodied those and Lotus isn't synomous with fine fit and finish. Anyone who buys a full wing SUV has no place to speak of taste or really much, leaving the S and 3, which asides some slight rough areas and signs of a car built by software people, are fine vehicles in my experience with them. As for the rest- what's the newest solvent independent car company in the US? Toyota and Honda were jokes ran out of small buildings. The first Toyota PR stunt failed to leave LA under its own power. To be anything Tesla needs time. Decades. Car companies don't start every day, and to be as well known as they are in such a short time puts them in the company of other big car makers (many of which including Ford teetered on bankruptcy in their earlier decades.)
